Buck Commander

Working at Kershaw I had the fortunate opportunity to design the packaging for Buck Commander. As their official knife sponsor it was my job to create a package that both conveyed the Buck Commander brand but also showcased our Kershaw knives equally. Buck Commander was started in 2006 by Willie Robertson. He and fellow Buckmen travel the country chasing whitetail, having a good time at hunting camp, and creating the Buckmen series of DVD's and the television show, Buck Commander Protected by Under Armour, on Outdoor Channel.

A package to
showcase a brand

When creating the packaging I wanted to come up with a unique clam shape that would stand out from the competition, but could also fit both the unique knife designs as well as the sheaths that come with them. Space was also a consideration since three languages had to be included for international distribution.

Making the right impact

For the design palette I wanted to incorporate hunting colors and textures synonymous with the outdoors. I choose the burnt orange, brown, white and black for text elements and created a leather background with stitching strokes for the texture.

A way to save space

In addition to creating clam packs I also created a box that would help save shelf space when placed on an endcap. The packages dieline was created in Illustrator and additional graphics were placed to match the brand and additional packaging.
